KAREN'S XL GRAVITUDE FUNDRAISING RIDE

RAISING FUNDS TO EMPOWER WOMEN & GIRLS THROUGH CYCLING

Welcome to Karen's XL Gravitude Fundraising Ride at Unbound 2024

Karen is taking on an XL challenge this year at Unbound, pushing her physical limits further than she has before (350 miles further!) all while riding to raise funds for the RPI - Be Good Girls Mentorship Program.

The RPI - Be Good Girls Mentorship Program an initiative that pairs young girls aged 12-18yrs with female mentors to race alongside them at Rebecca’s Private Idaho. This program aims to nurture confidence, community, and the sheer joy of cycling, empowering young women to take on races and challenges like RPI that will carry over into future events.

100% of the proceeds raised by Karen will support the Be Good Mentorship and Scholarship programs specifically towards getting more girls on bike! Karen's XL Ride ride fuels life-changing growth and empowerment for young girls in cycling.

About Karen:

For Karen, cycling is more than sport—it’s a sanctuary that brings mental clarity and physical strength. Her profound connection with the Be Good Foundation started with a life-altering trip to Laos in 2018, and since then, she has been a pivotal supporter of their mission to use cycling as a catalyst for healing and empowerment.

The “Why” behind this ride is firstly for a personal challenge. I’ve ridden the 200 distance several times and being around Emporia while the XL riders take off, it’s been in the back of my head “Can I do this?” I’ve never ridden at night- I like the idea of the ride being self-supported; just you and your bike and whatever nature brings. Secondly, the gals I train with- we have a saying “We can do hard things.” You don’t know what you are capable of until you try. This will be hard and I want to encourage them to do hard things too.

Be Good means so many things. If you can wake up every day and think- “What can I do today to make a difference, where can I bring Good into the world or someone’s life?”

I think that mindset can keep you away from the daily barrage of negativity that can creep into your life. Doing something Good is also a catalyst for others to think about how they can Be Good.

The Be Good x RPI Girls Mentorship Program is designed to empower young girls aged 12 to 18 from the Wood River Valley area by pairing them with female mentors for participation in Rebecca’s Private Idaho (RPI). This initiative, in collaboration with The Trailhead Bicycles, offers a nurturing environment for those new to racing or uncomfortable with mass starts and longer distances.

This program includes comprehensive support through educational webinars and group rides, covering topics like training, nutrition, and bike setup, all aimed at boosting confidence and camaraderie among the participants. With a focus on fostering a sense of community and fun, the program builds on the success of similar initiatives, which have significantly increased race event participation and confidence in young female cyclists.
